    The principles of these Energization Exercises, developed by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1916, are sound, and the routine is both healthful and invigorating. I will share more about these below but first need to point out that energy-building practices, regardless of type, should be used in conjunction with meditation to enhance inner realization.

    The Energization Excercises of Paramhansa Yogananda

    "O, Infinite Spirit!", Yogananda taught to pray at the beginning of these exercises. "Recharge my body with Thy Conscious Cosmic Energy. Recharge my mind with Thy concentration and determination. Recharge my soul and all souls with Thy ever-new joy. O, eternal youth of body, mind and soul—abide within me forever and forever."

    The Energization Exercises, as taught in the Ananda Course in Self-Realization, are a wonderful system of exercises originated by Paramhansa Yogananda. They are, undoubtedly, his unique contribution to the science of yoga.

    Based on ancient teachings and eternal realities, Yogananda explains that the whole physical universe, including man, is surrounded by, and made of cosmic energy. We can, through the act of our will, release tension that blocks the energy flow to our body and mind, and draw on this infinite storehouse of life-force all around us. Through daily use of these exercises we can systematically recharge our bodies with greater energy and train our minds to understand the true source of that power.

    This DVD begins with an indepth explanation of the Energization Exercises with Nayaswami Gyandev. It also includes a special guided session with Swami Kriyananda as well as 3 more guided sessions with Ananda teachers.


    Some time ago, I was able to download an iPad app for the Energization Exercises and am currently using it in my daily practice. I think that the app was offered through Ananda Sangha to those people on the mailing list. I want to recommend this app to my friends but it appears that it is not available from Apple. Is the app still available for download and, if so, how would one access this resource?

I’d recommend the Hong-Sau Technique of Concentration as a foundation, but techniques like the Energization Exercises would be very helpful as well. The Hong-Sau Technique, though, will help you to strengthen the muscle of concentration specifically.
